Basic Guidelines on How to be Healthy

As the saying goes, "Health is Wealth."  We should by all means look for effective ways on how to be healthy.  Staying healthy in this day and age can be a challenge between fast food restaurants on every corner, unlimited entertainment options that promote inactivity, and a medicinal solution to treat most conditions, there is little motivation for taking responsibility for your health.  Making positive health choices can help you feel good on the daily basis, help you avoid nagging illnesses like head colds, and even prevent serious diseases.  While living a healthy life cannot guarantee you from not getting lung cancer or pancreas cancer, you will be reducing your risk. In the long run, these positive choices can lead to a longer, healthier life that will require fewer medications.

True health is a balance of many factors. Generally, they simplify down to being active, eating natural foods and connecting with ourselves and others. The three need to be in balance for us to experience full health and happiness. Many people get overly focused on one or other of the first two and neglect the latter. At times, an obsession with fitness or diet, because they are more easily controlled, is actually a way of avoiding dealing with the uncertainty of our relationships with ourselves and others.

Cut back on your consumption of processed foods as they’re laden with preservatives and other harmful chemicals. Steer clear of junk food or anything with bad fats and excessive amounts of sugar.
Exercise.  Regularly doing some form of physical activity can help reduce the risk of developing heart diseases, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity and osteoporosis. Furthermore, during physical exertion, the brain releases chemicals called endorphins (similar to what happens when you eat chocolate) which improves your mood. Whether it be a 30 min walk around the block, dancing, going to the gym, pilates, basketball, footy, dog walking or a few leisurely laps up and down the pool, any form of exercise is better then no form of exercise at all. Exercise helps to build and maintain healthy bones, achieve a healthy weight and reduces stress and anxiety. 

Another part of a healthy life is keeping your stress levels under control.  A great way to prevent bad stress is to be surrounded with positive people. If there are friends and loved ones you can talk with, it will help you to release a lot of the bad feelings and anxiety you feel.
