First thing is to know when a hinge becomes loose and what re the evidence for this. Normally, when the hinges are loose, they tend to create a creaking sound when we open and close the cabinets. The louder the sound produces, the more loosed the hinges are.
Our kitchen cabinet doors are the ones that are mostly used. We open and close them more often than the other cabinets at home. This is because the kitchen is the most active place in the house.
Fixing the cabinet hinges is one of the easiest household tasks. All we need to do is get the tools we need, and then we’re ready to tighten them.
For this project, we will need the following tools:
· Flat blade screw drivers
· Phillips head screwdriver
· Awl
· Replacement screws
· Hinges
· Wood glue
· Wood
· Filler
· Sandpaper
Most of the time, we would fix the loosened cabinet hinges by simple tightening the screws and then securing them. But in the case, we need to apply the aesthetics so that we can repair any problems that the hinges have. we need to know how they get loosed easily and then tightening them and securing them carefully; not too much, yet not too loose.
We also have to make sure that all the cabinet doors are tightened much the same like any other doors. The idea here is to fix every cabinet, not only the loosed ones. Considering that we have allotted time for this project, we will then just have to fix every hinge we have at home. Most cabinets may be already loosened without knowing, so it is better if we check them all and fix them all at once.
We all know that not all of the hinges we have are the same with the other cabinets. We need to make sure we know how to tighten such hinge and not just keep on screwing. There are hinges which the screws are hidden behind the cabinet door. This means we have to get into the inside of the cabinet. We have to carefully slide the screwdrivers inside the cabinets especially when they are in small sizes.
The best procedure for this is to remove all the cabinet doors and the hinges. After that, we will sand the hinges to get rid of any rust and dirt that is stuck to it. This can also be done with the cabinet doors to fix any imperfections. Irregular sizes of the doors can also result to sound the door creates we open and close it.
After sanding them, we can reinstall them back together and then attach the doors back to the cabinets. Now, we can have better functioning cabinet doors with clean and tightened hinges.
