Barn House Plans – How to Design and Build a Pole Barn

A pole barn is a barn structure made mainly of wood. These types of buildings are called pole barns because they are constructed with wooden poles as the underlying support structure. Most often they have a dirt floor but can also be made with a more sturdy concrete based foundation and be used for many purposes. In addition to agricultural uses, barns are used for storage purposes or as a shelter for a car or other type of vehicle.

A pole barn is one of the simplest and easy to build types of barn structures. There are ready made barn house plans to follow or you can buy a pole barn kit, complete with materials. With the right barn house plans, a pole barn can be a quite simple and inexpensive DIY project that can be built in just a weekend.

The first step to building a barn is to obtain the right barn house plans for the project. You can have these barn house plans drawn up by a professional or buy ready made barn house plans. These plans will map out the steps needed to complete the project.

The next step will be to gather your materials. Some barn house plans will list all the materials needed for the project. If not you can decide which materials are needed based on your needs for the project. You will more than likely need wood measured out to the specifics of the plans, metal for the frame and concrete if you decide to lay a concrete floor. You will also need material for the roof.

When planning your pole barn project, you should also give some though to the land you will be building on. You must make sure there is a large enough space for the size pole barn that you desire. You must also make sure the space is flat, solid and has adequate drainage. If you do not chose the concrete option the wooden poles can be placed in the ground to provide a support structure for the barn, so the ground must be secure enough to hold the poles. Taking these tips into consideration and making sure you follow the barn house plans will ensure your project will be a success.
