How to Make a Video on a Computer

If you browse some of the large video sharing sites like YouTube, you are likely to stumble upon a great number of videos, where people have recorded everything that happens on their computer screens. These kinds of videos could be useful for video tutorials, software tutorials, and even for the gamer who wants to show his great skills to his online friends. Making such video can be a simple and straightforward or long and tedious process if a professional quality of the video is desired. In this article, I will show you how to make a video on a computer in three different ways:

Your first and most obvious option is to use a camcorder, digital camera, or even a cell phone. This could be useful way if you want to show your friend something that you wish to share, but expect the video to be of poor quality. A little improvement could be achieved if you use a monopod, tripod, or any other stabilization equipment as this would at least eliminate the negative effect of camera shake. Most digital cameras come with a tripod socket, which you can find typically on the middle of the underside of the camera, but could be on any of the sides on some of the odd camera models. If you do not have a tripod, then simply you place your camera on a box, positions it properly in front of the computer screen, and then record your video.
If your video card has a video-out, then you can connect it to your TV screen. Now, this comes with its own set of problems, but if you are lucky, you will simply connect the cables and everything will run perfectly, and if you are not, you might end up with no picture or picture with no sound, especially if you are using a HDMI connection cable. However, if you manage to connect your computer to your TV and have picture and audio, then you could use a DVD recorder or VCR to record everything that is happening on your computer screen. If your TV is a few years old, you might need to lower your computer resolution, but the latest models should give you an excellent image quality.
Using screen-recording software is definitely your best option as such software would allow you not only to record a video of your entire screen or a selected area, but also comes with editing options as well. If you need to create truly professionally looking video tutorials or presentations, then Camtasia Studio should be on top of your list as it comes with great number of options such as support for various file formats, smart focus, PowerPoint plug-in, cursor effects, callouts, transitions, and other excellent features. If you need simple, basic, and free screen recording software, then CamStudio should work just fine as it is capable of capturing your computer screen and saving the video as an AVI file.
